Overdue Charges

On the day after the due date, all materials will be considered overdue if they have not been renewed or returned.  No fines will accrue on days that the Library is closed.  The Library has an outside drop box located on the south side of the building for the return of materials.  Unless otherwise marked, materials may be returned in the drop box.  The drop box is available 24 hrs.

Damaged Materials

Patrons are responsible for all materials checked out on their card and are liable for any damages that may occur to library materials.  The Library will notify the patron of any charges for damaged materials.  In addition to charges for damaged items, there will also be a nominal processing fee ($4.00) added for each item that needs to be replaced or reprocessed.

Fine & Fees Collection Policy

After three attempts at obtaining restitution over a 60-day period, the library will attempt to collect fines and fees on library accounts that exceed $50.00.

If collection is unsuccessful within a reasonable time period, then accounts may be sent to a credit agency and/or a lien may be placed on real property by the City of Harper Woods.

Renewing Items

Most materials can be renewed if they are not on reserve for another patron.  Patrons can renew items during regular library hours or by using our 24-hour interactive library voice messaging system accessible through your touch-tone telephone at 1-800-520-8783.  Items may also be renewed online at http://catalog.libcoop.net.  Use the barcode on your library card and Personal Identification Number (PIN) to access your account.

Library Cards

Harper Woods residents or property owners may obtain a library card that allows access to all Suburban Library Cooperative member libraries.  Proof of residency (e.g. a current Michigan Driver's License or Michigan ID) or taxpayer status (e.g. a current tax receipt) is required.

Card holders and residents of communities within the Suburban Library Cooperative are eligible for full service at the Harper Woods Library.

Employees of the City of Harper Woods are also eligible for a card good for local use (please bring pay stub & ID).

Others may purchase non-resident cards for either $75.00 per year offering only materials in the Harper Woods Library, or $200 per year for full access to the Harper Woods Library and Suburban Library Cooperative.
