This site is useful for researching contemporary musical artists, genres, styles and recordings.

AskART is an online database containing over 35,000 American artists from the early 16th-Century through the present. Includes biographical info, museum references, reference citations, gallery information, and auction prices. Very useful for finding the obscure.

Excellent resource for movies, actors, and directors.

Ideal site for determining the order of a given series

Book Sense highlights a lot of books (from independent bookstores) A really good source for book club suggestions etc. 

Fiction-L is a fantastic listserv concerning all things fiction. Search the archives for a topic or review the booklists that are posted on the site.

This is a great reader's advisory tool produced by Hennepin (MN) County Library. Users specify a favorite author, theme or genre, and are provided with a list of similar titles for further reading.

The Citizens Research Council of Michigan is a private, not-for-profit public affairs research organization established in 1916 to provide nonpartisan analysis of state and local government organization and finance in Michigan.

This is a good source for information on U.S. Supreme Court decisions, transcripts, and court rules.

Keyword-searchable site for downloading and printing SCAO court forms in .pdf format. Often easier for patrons to use than the print version.

The Political Graveyard, a database of historic cemeteries, is the Internet’s most comprehensive source of U.S. political biography.

This website allows you to search for information (name, address, phone number, short biography,) on state and federal elected officials and current state elections by 9-digit zip code and it has a link to the U.S. Postal Service for looking up the extended zip code.

This site for Michigan voters built through citizen-government interaction provides polling locations, district maps, and links to information about candidates and key issues.

SEMCOG is the premier resource for data about Southeast Michigan, gathering and analyzing information for public and private sector decision making on the region’s economy and quality of life.

MedWeb is a catalog of biomedical and health related web sites maintained by the staff of the Robert W. Woodruff Health Sciences Center Library at Emory University.

History & Genealogy

Includes the top 100 American speeches, among other things

Find what happened in history on a specific date, plus it has a great history time line.

This database from the Library of Michigan allows keyword and geographical searching to locate cemeteries in Michigan. Recently, links to online burial transcriptions from around the state have been added.

This index, created and maintained by the Macomb County Clerk, provides death dates for persons who died (or whose remains were returned to Macomb County for burial) from approximately 1945 to present. A great resource for genealogy and general local history research.

Michigan history at your fingertips, full-text and free! This collection is a collaborative effort of Michigan's Council of Library Directors. The collection is projected to provide access to 192 histories dating from 1866 to 1926. There are 164 titles currently online, including both Macomb County histories (1882 and 1905). The full text is keyword searchable, with advanced searching operators available.

Horticulture and gardening links, as well as parenting resources.

Educational resources, photographs and facts on astronomy, space projects.

A useful astronomy site. 

Although an almanac will provide similar information, this is a good site for time of sunrise, sunset, moonrise, moonset and twilight, positions of the sun and moon, and information on eclipses.
