for quality entertainment?
Look no further!
The
Macomb Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped "Kids
on the Block" Puppet Shows are for you! These shows
entertain AND educate and are totally FREE!!
The
Kids on the Block, INC., originated as a troupe of disabled and
non-disabled puppets designed to teach children about disabilities
and differences. It was created in 1977 in direct response
to U.S. Public Law 94-142 (sometimes referred to as
"the mainstreaming law") to fill the need of
children with disabilities to have their non-disabled peers
understand and accept them. Learning disabilities is one of
the educational differences about which the puppets teach.
Bunraku,
a Japanese tradition of puppetry, is the style used with "The
Kids." Puppeteers are not meant to be hidden; instead,
they dress in black and can be seen by the audience but are barely
noticed once the action begins.
