Mennonite in a Little Black Dress: A Memoir of Going Home / Rhoda Janzen
LT, NONFIC
I laughed out loud so many times reading this book! It is very well written and sweet. Janzen does a good job of poking fun at her family while remaining both loving and kind. This is a great book.
(Lindsay Payne from TPL)

This is a humorous memoir reflecting on the author’s experiences of going back home to her eccentric Mennonite family after her life falls apart. Sometimes you have to go back in order to move ahead.
(Vicky, clerk at RAY)

A Paradise Built in Hell: The Extraordinary Communities That Arise in Disaster / Rebecca Solnit
NONFIC
The author explores how ordinary people, not the government, rose to the occasion of the worlds worst disasters and helped strangers (i.e. Hurricane Katrina, 9/11 terrorist attacks) regain a sense of community.
(Vicky, clerk from RAY)

The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Recipes from an Accidental Country Girl / Ree Drummond
NONFIC
This is my favorite new cookbook! Ree brings us step-by-step instructions with photos for each down-to- earth recipe. Ree also gives us a glimpse of her life – from city girl to ranch wife and mother. The French breakfast puffs are to die for.
(Pat from RSV)

The Souvenir: A Daughter Discovers Her Father’s War / Louise Steinman
LT, NONFIC
A daughter finds a souvenir of the war her father never talked about, links it to a current Japanese family and establishes a close and poignant relationship.
(John Hebert from CHE)

(Shane from CHE)

Unbuttoned: Women Open Up About the Pleasures, Pains and Politics of Breastfeeding / Dana Sullivan
NONFIC
This book will resonate with any parent regardless of how you fed your baby. Try not to devour this book too fast and take time to reflect on each story.
(Beth from HPW)

The Vendetta: FBI Hero Melvin Purvis's War Against Crime, and J. Edgar Hoover's War Against Him / Alston Purvis
NONFIC
This is a terrific biography on Melvin Purvis written by his son. Melvin Purvis was the FBI’s top agent and was responsible for bringing down most of the gangsters in 1934. Because of this, Hoover grew jealous, and destroyed his career. Purvis would later commit suicide, leaving many unanswered questions for his son and historians alike.
