FICTION

Peace Like a River / Leif Enger
FIC, LT
Three children growing up without a mom live with their dad. A family tragedy occurs when the eldest son kills someone, and the family then has to deal with it, as well accepting a “new” mom in the family. I loved this family. I had to read the book again as soon as I finished it the first time.
(Lillian, clerk at CLL)

Raining Cat Sitters and Dogs / Blaize Clement
FIC, LT
Meet Dixie Hemingway, cop turned pet-sitter, who cares for chatty parrots, finicky felines, and rehabilitated racing dogs, and solves crimes in an exotic Florida setting. This is the fifth book in an entertaining, humorous series.
(Beth from CMM)

A Reliable Wife: A Novel / Robert Goolrick
BCD, FIC, LT
A man in 1907 rural Wisconsin places an advertisement for a “reliable wife”. This is a slow, stylized story which turns into a smoldering Gothic tale where nothing is as it seems.
(Ruth from SCS)

This book gets off to a slow start but builds into an intriguing and enjoyable read. Set in Wisconsin in 1907, the characters and story develop into what becomes a suspenseful and unexpected ending.
(Vicki from CLL)

The Revolt of Gunner Asch / Hans Hellmut Kirst
FIC
Kirst is a master of describing World War II on the human level, from the German side.
(John from CHE)

FICTION

Roses: a Novel / Leila Meacham
BCD, EB, FIC
This book is set in the early 1900’s on a plantation in Texas. The story unfolds and continues through several generations of the Toliver family and their friends. It is truly a story that reflects the decisions we make in our lives for the good or the bad.
(Vicki from CLL)

The Scent of Rain and Lightning / Nancy Pickhard
BCD, FIC, LT
The heroine may be falling in love with the man who was accused of murdering her father.
(Mitzi DeSantis from FRA)

Something Wicked This Way Comes / Ray Bradbury
BCD, EB, FIC, LT
This is a coming-of-age story which may cause you to keep the lights on after finishing it. Among other things, it is a tale of unexpected heroism and sense of sacrifice.
(John from CHE)

Standing in the Rainbow / Fannie Flagg
BCD, FIC, LT
I did not want this book to end. I wanted to find out about my new adopted family. I loved every minute of this book!
