Great Michigan Reads

Wouldn't it be wonderful if everyone in Michigan was reading the same book at the same time generating discussions, programs and respect for the literary history of our state? Yes! THE GREAT MICHIGAN READ is the community reading program sponsored by the MIchigan Humanities Council and the book is The Nick Adams Stories by Ernest Hemingway.

Hemingway spent his early summers in northern Michigan and his experiences contributed to his career as one of America's great writers.

Get involved by reading the book and discussing it with friends, relatives and co-workers. The library has copies of The Nick Adams Stories available for check-out along with copies of the reader's guide. We will also host a book discussion on Thursday, May 1st at 7:00 p.m. in Erin Auditorium. The Friends of the Roseville Public Library will host a Wild Game Program with Chef Ray Hollingworth of the Loon River Cafe on Thursday, May 29th at 6 p.m. Reservations are required for program and the cost is $5.00 per person. This should be popular so reserve your tickets early!

Between the Pages
Thank -you for your support!

I would like to extend my sincerest appreciation to everyone who attended Between the Pages, a fundraiser for the library Endowment Fund.  The evening was a huge success – everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, we had enough food and beverages to go around, and we raised $4,000 for the new Endowment.  As the city’s resources become more limited, this Fund will become more important.  Hopefully, with your continued support, it will grow so that we can utilize the interest for special library materials and programs not covered by our regular budget.   In addition, several individuals took this opportunity to make a cash donation to the Endowment.  They are:  M. Carr, P.K. Jones,  Rose Kollmorgen, Julia Massey, Rosemarie Smith,  Rebecca Vasil, Sen. Michael Switalski and Roma Heaney.  For the many individuals and organizations that helped make this fundraiser possible, again, I thank you very, very much.
