If The Millage Is Approved...
All city neighborhood branch libraries will be open
Updates to both the Burnette and Busch branches to include new roofs, heating/cooling units, energy efficient windows, lighting, rewiring, and resurfacing of parking lots will be possible
Extended hours of service
Expansion of programs and services for children, teens and adults
Purchase of additional materials to bring Warren up to the state average
Expanded technology resources
If The Millage Is Not Approved...
The Burnette, Busch, and Miller Libraries will be permanently closed
Membership in the Suburban Library Cooperative will be jeopardized
Drastic cuts in the purchase of books, periodicals and audio-visual materials
Drastic cuts in programs for both adults and children
The elimination of story hour classes and early literacy programs for preschoolers
Permanent elimination of 25% full-time staff and 78% part-time staff

In the last five years:
library checkouts have increased 33%
usage of children's materials has increased by 100.17%
visits to the library have increased by 100.5%
computer sessions have increased by 100.4%
the number of reference questions answered were up by 43%
Spending on Libraries is down!
The only monies that can be spent on the operation of city libraries are from a special library millage of .5 mills (approved in 1957) and later decreased to .4873 mills due to the Headlee amendment.
This millage has not been increased since 1957!
No city general fund monies can be spent on the operation of city libraries
There will be a 40% decrease for libraries from the State of Michigan
The City of Warren libraries are classified as Class 6 in Michigan since they serve a population of over 50,000 residents.
The average spending of Class 6 libraries if $5.01 per person per year while Warren spends only $1.09 per person.
The election date
is Tuesday, August 3, 2010.
Polls are open from 7 a.m.—8 p.m.
Absentee voter applications are available by calling 586-574-4557.
The additional .85 mills will cost the owner of a $90,000 home $38.28 per year or $3.19 per month.
There are NO plans to build a new library & eliminate the Busch and Burnette branches.
